When Sunny began at Bergen Center for Child Development at the age of 14 years, he struggled to follow directions, and as he recalls, “liked to do things his way.”
Here, we celebrate each child and build upon individual strengths, and one of Sunny’s strengths was his ability to be an independent thinker. We not only teach young people hard work and job readiness, we also foster independence from an early age.
Our Getting REAL transition program helped Sunny develop his vision and prepare for his future. After graduating from BCCD in June of 2016, Sunny moved to Ohio to live with his extended family. There, he got a full-time job working at a convenience store – a position he secured on his own, using skills he learned while at BCCD.
Sunny is now in line for a management position, and is being mentored so he is ready. We are proud of Sunny and share his excitement for the future!
